NINE-YEAR-OLD Kayley Aggas , a pupil at Silverdale School, was one of the winners of a competition to name the county council’s fleet of gritters.

Kayley came up with the name Crystal, which has been emblazoned on one of the gritters. She is pictured above with Andy Brooke, public liaison officer from the highways team.

As a result of the competition open to schoolchildren across the county, vehicles bearing the names Usain Salt, Truck Norris and Girl Plougher will be among those criss-crossing the roads of East Sussex during the next cold spell.
