Company benefits through graduates’ expertise

A young company took on three new graduates as part of the Own Grown campaign.

Immersive Album, based in Wellington Square, which was formed in 2012 by Chris Cragg and Ben Dawson, recruited the trio after hearing about the council’s initiative, set up last year.

Ben said: “It’s been an incredibly rewarding experience taking on three graduates straight from their degree courses in computing, games development and music technology at the University of Brighton Hastings campus.

“The ideas and the skills they’ve brought with them have been hugely beneficial to us and we’ve very grateful to the university and Hastings Borough Council (HBC) for their support. We use next generation gaming technologies to create virtual worlds for artists to deliver unique, multi-sensory experiences to their audiences, released as apps; for mobile, tablet, desktop, smart TV and virtual reality devices.”

Chris moved from South Africa where he had been running the operations at a global TV advertising business and had trained as a chartered accountant. Ben moved from London where he managed music artists and web-based technology platform projects.

They teamed up with Alistair Clarkson, a software developer, and Michael Fenna, a music producer. Combining their passions and skills, they devised an innovative, accessible album app that allowed music artists to present their material in a highly interactive and engaging package.

Immersive Album, with guidance from MP Amber Rudd, successfully applied for funding from the county council for equipment to get their business going. With further support from HBC and investment from the SUCCESS creative industries fund they have been able to grow the business and its employees.
