Community rallies to support cancer survivor’s appeal

‘HEARTWARMING’ – that was the one word used by a cancer survivor to the community’s response to a fundraising plea.

Former Littlehampton mayor Emma Neno has been overwhelmed by the reaction of businesses and residents to her fundraising appeal for Chichester-based support charity CancerWise.

As well as being a district councillor for Beach ward, 37-year-old Emma is also a fundraising manager for CancerWise.

She launched the #cancerwiseloves2 campaign in January, which has so far raised more than £1,000 – and shows no signs of slowing down.

Emma said: “The campaign is going amazingly well and exceeding my expectations with new pledges to join in coming all the time from across the whole of the CancerWise catchment.

“It always makes me so proud of our community when you see people coming together to do whatever they can for such a worthy charity, it is very heartwarming.”

Among those to join the action are staff at Rustington-based hairdressers, Unique Hair, who, with the help of former chef Jonathan Wadsworth, baked up a storm selling scores of scrumptious cakes, raising £175.

Elsewhere, West Sussex county councillors and officers united with their #cancerwiselove2 event, which saw them all dressing in red, drumming up £451.

The Seahorse Café, in Sea Road, East Preston, raised £164 at its breakfast prize draw event while Rustington man and estate agent, Turner Reynolds generated £265 through sponsorship by completing the Chichester 10K this month.

In May, workers from waste contractor Biffa will be riding 52 miles from Guildford to Shoreham, then back to Littlehampton, to raise money for the charity.
