Community gets together to green Littlehampton

HUNDREDS of people got together to save the world, one step at a time, on Saturday (October 3).

The Littlehampton Greening Campaign, which aims to convince residents that small changes can add up to a big difference, was launched at Connaught Junior School.

Chairman of the campaign, Dr James Walsh, said: "This is especially important In Littlehampton. We live by the sea, and if, as experts warn, sea levels are going to raise by at least 1m over the next 50 years, we will have more and more flooding.

"People often say that even if that is the case, they cannot do anything to stop it, but we can if we all do our bit."

Saturday's event saw demonstrations of nine easy ways to cut down on energy consumption, including changing to energy-saving lightbulbs, only boiling the water you need, and switching appliances off stand-by.

To help residents on their way, several hundred lightbulbs, more than 60 composting bins and hundreds of Hippos, that reduce the amount of water used when flushing toilets, were handed out.
