FANS of the Fab Four will be descending on Hastings this Sunday (April 6) for this year’s Beatles Day event at the White Rock Theatre.

A record number of bands have been lined up to perform for the annual Beatlethon, which is now in its 15th year.

Last year the event attracted more than 1,700 people who came to watch the acts and raised £24,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

To date Beatles Day has raised more than £140,000 for the charity.

Organiser Pete Prescott has been working on this year’s extravaganza since last September and among the acts lined up for this year’s Fab Four extravaganza are the Starrlite Beatles, who performed on the rooftop of the White Rock Hotel last year. They will be performing around 5pm.

The Electric Beatles from Folkestone who also wowed the audience last year with their performance are playing at the end of the evening. Also playing at 6pm will be the Witch Blair Project.

Other acts include the 1066 Rockitmen, from Rye, the Frampton Sisters, from Battle and the Pestalozzi Pirates from Sedlescombe.

A wide variety of music is on offer, from folk, punk, country and western, and blues, to heavy rock, school choirs and song and dance acts.

Pete said: “This year we have 22 acts that have never taken part before and there are a lot of young performers.

“We have a record number of bands this year. Every year it seems to grow.

“Sunday will see another year of really good bands, from the first act to the last.”

Beatles Day runs continuously for 12 hours from noon on two stages with the main acts and around 350 mainly local amateur performers of all ages and abilities playing Beatles songs of their choice and in their own style for up to 20 minutes.

Everyone plays for free and all proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Wristbands are £10 for the day. Doors open at 11.30am.
