Colleges hit by funding crisis

A 'DEEPLY worrying' funding crisis has hit multi-million pound redevelopment plans for two West Sussex colleges.

The schemes for two colleges in Worthing, costing more than 100million, are currently on hold as the national funding body for further education, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), conducts a review of its national capital programme.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton said it would be a disaster if the plans for Worthing College and Northbrook College were stopped.

"These recent developments are deeply worrying for the future of Worthing's further education colleges. Northbrook and Worthing have both been trying to get their development plans off the launch pad for the last 12 years and had at last been given agreement in principle for development of both these important sites."
