A ROOFER was treated to a party by his colleagues to mark 50 years of service.
Colin Smith, 68, of Parkstone Road, joined Dartford-based firm TRC in 1961.
Despite commuting 106 miles daily between the Kent town and Hastings, he has no intentions of giving up work. Mr Smith was presented with a set of engraved crystal glasses by the company’s managing director Steve Pennington.
He started his working life as a hairdresser earning £1 per week but took a chance to earn more money by taking up the offer to scale rooftops.
Since then Mr Smith has worked on castle battlements and chicken houses as well as domestic and commercial property. He said: “This presentation came as a total surprise. I love working for TRC, there is a great atmosphere and to be honest I can’t say when I’ll retire.”
