City Mission coffee morning makes £290

THOUGH the stalls were beginning to get busy even before the 10am official start time, there was an air of sadness to a Saturday coffee morning and sale.

The event in the Clifford Hall at Beulah Baptist Church was in aid of the London City Mission.

That afternoon, committee members and supporters were due to attend a memorial service at St George's Church for their late chairman, Mick Martin.

The London City Mission was founded in 1835. It currently has more than 100 personnel attached to churches in the capital. They work alongside the clergy in roles ranging from door-to-door witness to youth work.

The team is augmented by young people giving their time during gap years or summer holidays.

Thanks to stalls which included bric-a-brac, cakes and books, Saturday's event made 290.
