A CHILDREN’S choir was launched on Friday, March 4 – with its leader hoping she can spread a little sunshine through the power of song.
Friday Larks will meet from from 4pm until 5pm at the Parish Centre in St Leonards, and the group will be aimed at children from eight years old to 11.
It will be led by local choir leader, pianist and musician Nancy Cooley, with Anya Williams as her assistant.
Speaking before the first session, Ms Cooley said: “Singing is a great way to channel energy after a school day where maybe children have spent a lot of time sitting at desks. It’s energising but also calming to sing, and to get in touch with our bodies and our breathing with our voices.
“We will be doing all sorts of songs – gospel, carnival, folksong, and songs from round the world.”
The Parish Centre is at the back of the courtyard by Christ Church on the London Road, just below Silchester Road. Sessions cost £3 but £2 if youngsters bring a singing friend, brother or sister with them.
