Cheque for RNLI

THE BEXHILL branch of the RNLI was presented with a £150 cheque from the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship (CSRF) last week.

Ex-civil servants handed over the gift at their monthly coffee morning and raffle - from which proceeds also went to the charity.

T

he money was made at a celebratory lunch to mark the fellowship's 40th anniversary.

A special birthday cake was also cut at the coffee morning, held at Bexhill Sailing Club, on Marina.

Hugh Maynard, honorary secretary of the Bexhill RNLI committee, said: "Thank you very much on behalf of the RNLI for this very generous cheque. I think we all know that Bexhill doesn't have its own lifeboat and the nearest ones are Hastings or Eastbourne, but what you probably don't know is that Bexhill has a very active committee who raise thousands of pounds a year to go to lifeboat funds."

Major Laurence Sharp, deputy chairman of the Bexhill CSRF, said: "I said to members we should go out and have lunch to celebrate but there must be a purpose. When we look back at it now we can say we have achieved something."
