THE president of a charity will be the guest speaker at a Diabetes Awareness Day this month.
Richard Lane OBE, from Diabetes UK, is meeting with the charity’s Hastings and Rother group on May 17.
The event which will also have talks and presentations from local diabetes specialists starts at 10.15am and will take place at the Hastings Conference Centre.
Caroline Cornford, chairman of the group, said: “It is a great pleasure that our president will be here. Richard Lane is an encouraging example of how Diabetes UK-funded research and treatment makes a difference to people’s lives.”
As president of Diabetes UK, he campaigns nationally on behalf of the charity raising awareness of the seriousness of the chronic condition and its potentially fatal complications.
In Hastings and Rother there are about 20,000 people diagnosed with diabetes and an estimated 5,300 people in the area who are unaware they have Type 2 diabetes. A buffet lunch will be provided. To attend the meeting booking in advance is essential, as space is limited. For a place contact Caroline on 07974 356653 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
