Charity opens new drop-in centre to help those in debt

DEBT counselling charity Christians Against Poverty has launched a new drop-in centre in Hastings.

Partnering with the local Salvation Army, the drop-in centre opened yesterday (Thursday) and is available to anyone seeking financial advice.

The charity aims to help people living with poverty in Hastings. The charity said the local debt centre, which opened last June, has already helped almost 70 families suffering with overwhelming debt, and 10 per cent of those families are already completely debt free thanks to the help they have received.

The new drop-in service runs alongside the Salvation Army Employment Plus programme, which helps local residents escape joblessness.

This service will work as part of the drop-in centre to support local residents in their search for a job.

Free budgeting courses, called CAP Money Courses, will also be provided through the centre, helping people to manage finances via an easy to use cash system. The centre is open every Thursday from 10am till 1pm at the Salvation Army, St Andrews Square.
