Charity ball a big success

A Hastings family has raised thousands of pounds for charity after their third annual ball at Leeford Place Hotel in Battle was a ‘huge success’.

The Luck family hosted the popular Peridot Ball on Friday, August 29, and raised £3,100 in just one night for two charities close to their hearts - The Prostate Cancer Charity and the Stroke Association.

Hayley Luck, of Parker Road, along with husband David, and daughters Nicole Luck, Kylie O’Neilla and Aimee Holland, and her husband Paul, organised the first event in 2012 to raise funds for the two charities.

Hayley’s father passed away due to prostate cancer and her mother-in-law to a stroke, so the family wanted to hold an event in their memory to raise money for the charities and awareness about the two conditions.

Hayley said: “It was a huge success. This was the third Peridot Charity Ball and it was by far the best. We sold 98 tickets out of 100, there so many people and it was absolutely tremendous. It was bubbly and buzzing, and when people were bidding in the auction it was great. We had so many people telling us we must do it again and there were lots of new faces and people who said they wanted to come again.

“If people keep supporting the event, we will keep doing it.

“I think the highlight for me was the auction and realising how much money we had raised. Just the realisation that we had done so well and to see everyone’s faces at the auction, it was really great.”

In total, over the past three charity balls, the Luck family has raised some £7,000 and they are now aiming to reach £10,000 with next year’s event.

The evening included pink champagne and canapés, a three-course meal, live music from Chris Anderson and his band The Swing Thing, a charity auction, luxury raffle and a ladies’ lucky dip.

Hayley added: “We would really like to thank all the businesses and individuals who donated tables and prizes, without those donations we would not be able to put on a charity ball.”

Busy planning for next year, Hayley says they have already booked Leeford Place Hotel for the Peridot Charity Ball 2014 and hope it will be an even bigger success.
