ORGANISERS of Hastings Beer and Music Festival are offering another chance for local charities or non-profit making organisations to showcase their cause and raise awareness at this year’s event in July.

Last year’s winners, Hastings and Bexhill Rugby Club, successfully fended off stiff local competition in a fierce, Facebook bidding process, to raise awareness for St Michael’s Hospice, which reached more than 46,000 users.

James Beeching, from Hastings Round Table, which organises the annual event, said: “Last year’s Pitch 4 a Pitch initiative was literally a runaway success.”

Applicants can apply to win a pitch throughout the main Hastings Beer and Music Festival, which is on the evening of Friday, July 4 plus the Family Fun Day and evening music event on Saturday, July 5, to gain exposure for their cause.

The principal winner will be given an inflatable Bungee Run to staff, the proceeds from which will go directly to their cause, get additional coverage by way of a feature in the Observer, plus a £500 donation from Hastings Round Table.

More than £70,000 has been distributed to local charities throughout the community during Hastings Round Table’s Shedding the Pounds initiative since last year’s event.

Festival organisers say this year boasts more local bands and more local breweries which will mean even more charities and community groups set to benefit from proceeds.

The event is completely run by volunteers, who donate 100 per cent of the proceeds to local good causes, with some new products on sale from Hastings Brewery and Battle Ciders.

In recognition of the smaller clubs and organisations who like so many others struggle to raise much-needed funds and awareness, event chairman, Tony Lee has offered to throw two lucky runners-up a special lifeline to fundraise at one of the sessions, with a £250 donation to their chosen charity or cause.

The winners will be determined by a Facebook vote. Visit for more information.
