Cattle returns to show

CATTLE and sheep will return to this year's Heathfield Show after a three year absence.

The news was announced at the annual meeting of Heathfield and District Agricultural Show Society.

The 2003 show will be held on Saturday, May 24 at Mr and Mrs DW Browning's Little Tottingworth Farm, Broad Oak, Heathfield.

The chairman of the Show Council, David Unsworth White, thanked the members for supporting the show in the past and said: 'I Iook forward to seeing you at the 2003 show, complete with cattle and sheep again and bigger and, I hope, better than ever.'

Cattle and sheep were greatly missed in 2002 and the showground felt empty without them. DEFRA rules permitting, the cattle and sheep parade will be held in the Main Ring at 4pm.

Llamas

A full range of livestock classes will be run in 2003, including Young Handlers and Young Farmers classes, and judges have been invited from across the UK.

Llama classes have been scheduled and with no classes at the South of England Show next year major interest is anticipated.

Following consultation with the Heavy Horse exhibitors, the committee have revamped the timetable to allow the Heavy Horse classes to start at 10am thus allowing plenty of time to prepare their animals for the show. Prize money for the Ridden Hunter classes has been increased to keep in line with other shows.

The return of donkey classes in 2002 was a great success and the same classes will run in 2003.

The Flower Show, a great favourite with the flower clubs in the area, will offer more classes for children in 2003. For further details please check out the website.
