Craft Fair: Tomorrow, Saturday 29th October there will be another Craft Fair in the Village Hall and will feature the work of local makers including jewellery, hand knits, textiles, cards, quilts, art etc. Refreshments will be available and there is free entry and car park. This event will be raising money for Diabetes, so do go along and find some early Christmas presents which will be far more original than anything that you'll find in the shops.

WI: Thursday 3rd November is the next meeting of the Catsfield WI in the Village Hall at the winter time of 2pm. This will be the Annual Meeting at which there will be recaps of meetings, events and memorable occasions from the past year. The speaker will be a representative from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, which has been our charity for the last two years and the final cheque from our fundraising will be presented. A lovely WI tea and the raffle will wind up the afternoon – will Ann have the microphone again?

Quiz Night: Last Saturday’s fundraising Quiz Night for the Parish Church of St Laurence raised the great sum of £375. As usual, the Quizmaster for the evening was John Overall – how does he manage to keep finding all those challenging questions? The highlight was a section called “Bread, if available”, alluding to David Wilson’s writings in the Parish Magazine with his Granny’s favourite recipes. The winning team, which rose to the challenge and succeeded was ‘The Old Folkies’ – Mike and Rosemary, Linda and James, Thelma, Peter and Brenda - congratulations to them! The evening was well supported with approximately forty-four people present, although the teams seemed to have been slightly fewer than usual, could this be down to the Ed Balls effect on Saturday night television? Sandra is planning another ‘Burns Night’ celebration in January, so watch this space for further details.

The Christmas Market: This is the next and the biggest fundraiser of the year for St Laurence’s Church. It will take place in the Village Hall on Saturday 26th November. This is always a great pre-Christmas event with the hall brightly decorated with ‘market stalls’, festively decorated with greenery and selling a huge variety of Christmas gifts. There will be decorations, gifts, crafts, cakes, bathroom/perfumery, plants etc and a raffle. Teas and coffees, lunches and snacks will be served throughout and Father Christmas with his elves will be in the grotto for the children. More details soon.

Sport: A defeat of 1-4 for our footballers against top of the table Bexhill last Saturday, doesn’t augur well for tomorrow’s cup match against Mayfield at home. However, we will press on with the hope that in a division above us, Mayfield will not be too great a hurdle in our push for a trophy shelf in the pavilion. You will notice our ambitions have been slightly downgraded!
