ALLOTMENT holders were given paws for thought when the culprit behind a year-long crime wave was identified.
The suspect, clad in black, had been spotted on occasion creeping into sheds at the Marina Allotments, St Leonards, and making away with gloves and other small items, evading capture by a whisker.
That was until last week when the cat burglar raised the stakes by taking a much-loved baseball cap, and was pursued through a hedge into neighbouring garden, where the cat was finally out of the bag, and furry fiend Max relinquished his haul of more than 200 gloves.
The victims have decided not to press charges and Max now looks like the cat that got the cream.
Plot holders are hoping that there will be no copycat occurrences.
Anyone who thinks they may have lost gloves in the last 12 months is invited to call in at the Allotment Shop to have a look at what the cat dragged in and reclaim their goods.
