Cash boost for skate park

SEAFORD skateboard park plans are almost ready to roll after receiving a cash boost.

Earlier this year Seaford Town Council backed a bid by young people from the Elm Court Youth Club who called for a new skating area at The Salts Recreation Ground.

It was estimated the work would cost 25,000 and that skateboarders would meet part of the costs through fund raising.

Now Lewes District Council has agreed to provide land, formerly used as a bowls green, and 8,500 towards the costs. The town council has matched the amount and Seaford Community Partnership has chipped in 1,000, bringing the total to 18,000.

Town clerk Len Fisher was optimistic the 7,000 shortfall could be found, possibly from East Sussex County Council and Sussex Police grants.

He said: 'It's all systems go to get this extra 7,000. The youngsters are doing some fund raising and I'm very hopeful we can secure the rest of the funding in the New Year.'
