Carers invited to attend support event at Sainsbury’s

PEOPLE who care or provide support to family and friends are being invited to attend an event on Thursday as part of National Carers Week.

The Association of Carers charity is inviting those who provide unpaid support to family or friends to visit Sainsbury’s in John Macadam Way between 2pm and 4pm. They will be able to find out more about the support available in the local area, including their own free, regular respite service. There will also be the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary cup of tea and piece of cake, courtesy of Sainsbury’s, who are the national Carers Week partner. Visit the customer services desk when on arrival. The charity states that without the right help and support, caring can have a devastating impact on people. Carers can quickly become cut off and their physical and emotional health, work and finances can all be hit hard. There is lots of free support available locally, so don’t miss this opportunity to find out about it. According to the association, carers save the economy £119 billion per year. Three in five people will become a carer at some point in their lives and one in eight adults in the UK is currently looking after someone without pay. There are nearly 60,000 unpaid carers in East Sussex. Of these 13,000 are providing 50 or more hours of unpaid care a week. For more information call the Association of Carers on 0300 330 9498.
