Car stolen after beach chalet break-in

Thieves broke into a beach chalet in St Leonards and stole a car parked nearby.

They took the red Suzuki Wagon between 9pm and 10.30pm on Monday, July 15, from a car park at West Marina, near to Sea Road, after getting the keys from inside the chalet.

The thieves broke into the chalet between 6pm and 8pm but only took the car after the owners, noticing the break-in, left the area to get their spare set of keys.

A black luggage bag inside the car was also taken. It contained a number of designer shirts including makes such as Agnes B, Gresham Blake and Nudie Jeans and two Bari specialist saxophone mouthpieces, worth more than £1,200 in total.

The vehicle was stopped byp olice at 12.35am the next day in King Offa Way, Bexhill.

A 17-year-old youth from St Leonards was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and driving while drunk or on drugs.

An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, both from St Leonards, and a 16-year-old from Bexhill were arrested on suspicion of being carried in a stolen vehicle.

All four were questioned before being released on bail until Sunday, September 8.

PC Ian Riches, of Hastings Response Investigation Team, said: “Although four people have been arrested and are now on bail we would still like to speak to any witnesses who may have seen the theft of the keys from the chalet or the car being stolen. There were also a number of other cars which were parked near to the Suzuki that had their tyres slashed.

“Please remember to keep your belongings with you. There are opportunistic thieves who will take advantage of property being left unattended.”
