Car park changes afoot?

STEYNING Parish Council is to ask for new parking restrictions to be brought in at Fletcher's Croft car park.

The car park will house the town's temporary health centre while the current facility is rebuilt.

It is feared the loss of a number of parking spaces, pictured above, will put pressure on parking at Fletcher's Croft, which is used by people visiting places including St Andrew's Church, the Steyning Centre, and the library.

At a recent committee meeting, parish councillors agreed to write to Horsham District Council and ask for time restrictions to be imposed on parking at Fletcher's Croft, where there is currently no time limit on how long drivers can leave their cars.

Councillors also agreed to make a separate application to have the limit on parking at Newmans Gardens car park, which serves the current health centre and the High Street, increased to eight hours.

It is hoped the move would take long-term parking away from Fletcher's Croft without inconveniencing users of the car park and soon-to-be-built temporary health centre.

The proposed changes could take up to six months to come into force, once approved by the district council.

Parish councillors stressed any changes would be temporary, and would revert back once the new health centre is completed.
