Capture the beauty

A nursery garden is challenging amateur photographers and young artists to capture its beauty in June.

Merriments is an independently owned nursery with a beautiful, celebrated garden acre garden at Hurst Green.

Laura Andrews, from Merriments, said: “The mature garden was established 24 years ago and a visit in June will reward photographers and artists with the exuberant, generous planting and exciting colour combinations Merriments is renowned for.”

Those taking part have until June 30.

The competition will be judged on July 13 by Leigh Clapp, garden photographer and journalist of Kent and Sussex Life and a regular visitor to Merriments. The competition is open to both adults and children. Adults may enter a colour photograph and children a drawing or photograph. The closing deadline is July 10.

Merriments owner David Weeks said: “Many professional photographers from the UK and abroad return again and again to capture the beauty of Merriments garden through the seasons and years but we would love to see Merriments through the eyes of local amateur photographers and children too, to see how they relate to this special garden.”

The winner of the Adult photography competition will receive a £50 Merriments voucher (which can be used in the shop, restaurant or nursery) and their photo will grace Merriments 2016 leaflet and Merriments website. The runner up prize is a two course meal in the restaurant for two (excluding drinks).

For the children’s competition there are two classes: best photo and best drawing. First prize will be £20 WHSmith voucher and runner up prize a £10 voucher.
