MP Amber Rudd has written to the Secretary of State for Local Government requesting a public inquiry into the borough council’s handling of Rocklands caravan site.
Ms Rudd has written to Eric Pickles after receiving a letter from a constituent asking for a full public inquiry.
Last month two reports criticised some aspects of the way planning officers handled the site application.
The owners had their retrospective application to make alterations to a building thrown out by councillors in June. The council commissioned two reports. Among the conclusions, one stated some of the submitted documents contained some inaccuracies. The other report revealed there were breaches of existing conditions which should have been addressed by the licence holders.
Ms Rudd states: “I have received the enclosed emails from my above constituent, amongst many others, who states that ‘Many people on the Save Ecclesbourne Glen are voicing severe misgivings about the council and the competence of many of the serving officers. She asks if a full public inquiry would be possible into the planning department in Hastings, as she states that ‘the public are being misled and lied to by this Council,’ and that there are crucial errors in the Environmental Report and the Planning Review. I should be grateful for your advice as to what steps can be taken, and by whom, to initiate a full public inquiry into the Planning Department, as my constituent states, not just restricted to Rocklands “because our planners make so many mistakes all over the area and it is costing us dear”.
