THE shipmates of TS Hastings Sea Cadets has been awarded a cup for being the best unit in the south east.

The local branch beat off competition from 68 other groups to land the Stephenson Trophy for the first time since 1988 when the curren commanding officer, Alison Brennan-Wright, was mere cadet herself.

And before 1988, it was only in 1980 and 1958 that Hastings had come out on top.

Lt SCC Brennan-Wright was full or praise for the youngsters.

She said: “I would like to congratulate and thank all the cadets, staff and supporters for all their hardwork during the year and bringing home the trophy once more.”
