Cadet volunteers presented with long service award

TWO Army Cadet volunteers have been honoured for their long service.

Sarah and Adam Earley were presented with medals by the Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex, Peter Field, at a ceremony this week.

They met and married while serving as adult volunteers with the Army Cadet Force.

Adam, who runs the Army Cadet detachment at Hastings, said: “I have been in the ACF as an adult volunteer since 2001, but I was a cadet myself so I’ve been involved for as long as I can remember. I’m now running Hastings detachment where we have more than 30 young people attending twice a week. I can’t recommend it highly enough and now my own son is a member and getting so much out of it just like I did.”

Sarah, 38, who joined as a cadet at the age of 14, has now been an adult volunteer for almost 20 years. Her current role is in looking after the cadets and adult staff in nine detachments around East Sussex. She said: “The ACF has given me so much over the years. The skills I have learned have given me confidence to do more in my day job.”
