Butterflies In Bonnets

THE FIRST morning of spring may have lacked sunshine but the streets of Littlehampton were a blaze of colour as Butterflies pre-school pupils showed off their beautiful Easter bonnets.

Thursday saw the tots' first ever Easter Bonnet Parade and Butterflies' founder Amanda Barnard-Grove said the day was an unqualified success.

"I was very impressed by the amount of effort that had gone into the bonnets, some of them were really elaborate."

Elm Grove Infants school headmistress Thirza Jago was given the difficult task of judging the bonnets and awarded prizes to Christopher Cavell, Lizzie Smart and Alex Purcell.

Amanda thanked the parents for coming along to the parade and for helping their children to make such a stunning array of headgear.

Butterflies was set up in September 2000 by Amanda at the Flintstone Centre and received an excellent Ofsted report just nine months later.

She started off with 11 pupils and now, less than 18 months later, has 68 children attending the pre-school.

And Amanda is delighted that Butterflies has now been given its own permanent room at the centre.

She said: "My thanks and appreciation go to the staff who have worked so hard to make this a success.

"And without the fantastic support from my parents, there simply would not be a Butterflies."

From April, the pre-school will be able to take children from the age of 2 and the hours are being extended to run the school day from 9.15am to 2.30pm.
