A NEW state-of-the-art conference centre boasting its own cinema and eco-friendly features has already taken dozens of bookings ahead of its opening next month.
The Sussex Exchange on the Enviro 21 business park off Queensway in St Leonards has taken bookings for its meeting and function rooms right up until next summer.
The eye-catching building on the edge of the rolling Sussex countryside and Castleham Industrial Estate was built two years ago as part of the Enviro 21 project. Creating up to six new jobs, the Exchange is the first of its kind in the area and is attracting interest ahead of its opening in mid September.
It offers three rooms suitable for conferences, business meetings and training sessions. The largest can offer space for 160 delegates.
It also has a 52-seater, surround-sound cinema which will be available to outside organisations who want to screen films.
The biomass boiler uses wood chippings or pellets to produce heating and the sewerage system uses rainwater collected from the roof.
There is also shingle on the roof space which acts as an insulator in winter and also offers a habitat for wildlife. A modern restaurant will provide food sourced from the finest local producers. There is also an outdoor balcony offering views across the picturesque Marline Valley.
The facilities are also available for weddings and function hire.
The building was funded by the Sea Change Sussex, a not-for-profit economic development agency for East Sussex.
Sea Space, the original regeneration company, funded the main building works of £2.3million and Sea Change paid the internal fit out of £200,000.
Any profits made will be reinvested in local projects such as the Priory Quarter business district in Hastings town centre. Sea Change spokesman Tariq Khwaja said: “There is nothing of its kind in the area and we have already attracted a lot of interest without advertising.
“The venue offers first-class business facilities in a striking, eco-friendly building with stunning woodland views.
“Businesses in Hastings, St Leonards and beyond can use our facilities for staff training, delegate meetings, conferences and board meetings.”
