Gambling law change may mean a boost to arcades

CHANGES to gambling law that may benefit the town’s amusement arcades and bingo clubs, came into effect on Tuesday (July 19). The Government has brought in new legislation increasing the maximum bet on a particular category of slot machine from £1 to £2, and vary the maximum number of these machines permitted in adult gaming centres and bingo clubs.

Amber Rudd MP welcomed these changes and said: “These measures are long overdue and will help amusement arcades in Hastings to remain competitive and enable them to grow.”

But Gary White, manager of The Deluxe arcade in Pelham Place, said: “It’s too early to say how this will affect business, only time will tell. But the problem is a lot of people just don’t have money to spend at the moment.”
