DIY store’s future remains uncertain

ALMOST 30 jobs at a St Leonards store are set to be lost.

Earlier this month Focus DIY announced it had filed for administration due to falling sales brught on by the recession.

Last week administrators from Ernst & Young sold 11 of Focus DIY’s stores to B&M Retail Ltd but the store in Sedlescombe Road North was not one. A buyer for the remaining stores has yet to be found.

Simon Allport, on behalf of Ernst & Young, said: “Low consumer confidence has impacted on Focus DIY and placed considerable pressure on sales and margins.

“Despite management’s actions to tightly control costs and restructure the operations it has not been possible for the business to continue to trade outside of insolvency.”

The troubled firm has 178 stores across the UK.
