A fast-growing international business could create up to 40 new full-time jobs in the town if the borough council agrees to plans to finance a new factory unit at a cabinet meeting on Monday.

BD Foods, which produces condiments and food products, such as pasta and soups, and has annual growth of 40 per cent wants to expand its successful business.

Started in 2001 at the nearby Conqueror Industrial Estate, the business has thrived ever since.

It was set up by partner John Davis and Clive Barker but after five years it had outgrown the premises and moved into its current Castleham Road location in November 2006.

Mr Davis, a former hotelier, and Mr Barker, a trained chef, tapped into a niche market which continues to grow.

There are now 70 staff at the sites in Castleham Road which it leases from the borough council.

The airline business accounts for 30 per cent of trade while the majority of its orders come from the hotel and restaurant industry.

Once constructed BD Foods would fit the factory unit out for use as a kitchen at its own cost, enabling it to develop its successful business.

At its state-of-the-art kitchen in Castleham, which includes a Josper charcoal oven, Wood Stone pizza oven, and authentic charcoal Tandoor oven, BD Foods produces products for range of customers in the UK and around the world. And its impressive client list includes Waitrose, British Airways, KLM, Conrad Hotels, Eurostar, Cafe Rouge, and Marriott.

They supply Sainsbury’s with Taste The Difference chutney.

Mr Davis said: “I am really excited about the future.

“When you think that every day our products are being eaten by businessmen and women flying around the world it really does make you proud.

“We have a very stable workforce and are committed to staying here in the borough. We hope to be up and running by next summer.”
