Bus shelters bring passengers in from the rain at Midhurst

TWO long awaited bus shelters have been officially opened close to the shop on the Holmbush Estate by chairman of the residents association Mrs Slyfield, town council chairman Mark Purves and school pupil Reese Bennett.

Funding came via West Sussex County Council, part of ‘planning gain’ money from the development of nearby Southdowns. County councillor Gordon McAra, said, ‘It has taken almost eight years to get them because no one would take responsibility for looking after them. Then Midhurst Town Council agreed to have them installed, look after them and insure them for the next 15 years. After persuasion, the county council accepted the offer and allocated money. I hope it might be possible to look at several other sites and add a few more shelters. But, if it rains, bus passengers in Holmbush should stay dry.”
