Coffee: What a lovely day it was fro the village hall’s coffee morning last week. Held in the delightful garden of Chairman Shirley Viney it was just the perfect setting. well as the coffee/tea and delicious home made cakes to enjoy there was a great bric-a-brac and second hand book stall and a raffle and Julie was there with her lovely cards etc. Thank you to everyone who came along and sat in the sun and helped us raise a further £284 for the new village hall windows.

Well done: Last weekend many Race for Life events were held around the country. Quite a few from pour villages took place in this yearly race that helps to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Congratulations to all those who gave up there time to enter. You are all stars

Kipling: Tomorrow evening you are invited to an evening with Kipling at his home of Batemans. The event is being held in the Mulberry tea Room from 6pm to 10.30pm. The evening will include a performance by Geoff Hutchinson as Rudyard, and anyone who has seen Geoff in action will know he is very good at impersonation. A guided tour of the house followed by dinner. Booking is essential by calling 01435 882302. The event costs £35 per person.

Camping: Also at Bateman’s this weekend is the Big Camping weekend. Pitches cost £30 to £50 with optional breakfast at £20. This is a unique way of experiencing the home of Rudyard Kipling and the estate in a family- orientated event with activities including a nature tour, games and storytelling, a campfire with marshmallows to cook. Booking is again essential so ring 882302 now.

Sea Sunday: On Sunday evening there is to be a special service at St Philip’s church, Burwash Common bringing together churches in the Heathfield District to celebrate the men and women who risk their lives at sea to bring us 90% of what we use each day. The service will be held at 6.30pm and you are all welcome to attend.

Walk: The next parish footpath walk will take place on Monday morning, leaving the Bear car park at 9am. The walks are for all to enjoy and usually take in five or six miles of the beautiful countryside around our three villages. You are all welcome to go along. Meeting: The Burwash Common & Weald Residents association will be holding their next meeting on Monday evening in the Pavilion at Burwash Common at 7.30pm. If you have any concerns about the area or are interested in learning about the villages where you live do go along. You can join the association for £5 per household.
