Brilliant evening of autumn music

A "brilliant" evening of autumn music and song was held to raise funds for Richmond Methodist home in Collington Lane East.

The presentation was organised by Friends of Richmond and held in Sackville Road methodist church on Saturday.

The compere for the occasion was Barry Turnwell of Christchurch who told the 140 strong audience they were in for a much better time than if they stayed home to watch XFactor or Strictly Come Dancing - and afterwards they seemed to fully agree.

The musicians were Andrew McGregor and Stephen Page who both played organ and piano, and Andrew Gill on trumpet, and Gemma Hickman sang.

The programme was a varied one which mixed up different styles and moods, from classical to jazz, and at one point Andrew Gill even played a hose pipe with a funnel fitted to it instead of his trumpet, while another highlight was a duet on organ by Andrew McGregor and Stephen which was an stunning and rare performance.

Barry commented: "The Friends of Richmond has an ammenity fund which helps the home - which accommodates 52 residents - with little extras such as Christmas presents and outings, just the extras to help the home do the special things for residents.

"The evening was brilliant - we raised 512 so we were really delighted with that and it was just a lovely evening. The music was so varied and the talent of those musicians was superb."
