Breast cancer will not scare brave Littlehampton mum

Kim Baccarini, 55, of Norfolk Gardens, in Littlehampton, works at the Dolphin and Anchor, in West Street, Chichester.

Staff at the JD Wetherspoon pub joined Kim in shaving her head to raise money for CLIC Sargent, helping children and young people with cancer.

Kim said her mum passed away from cancer and the type of breast cancer she had was hereditary.

“We’ve got a lot of it in our family and because I’ve got four children and grandchildren and the likely chance is one of them could go through it, I’m doing this to show them not to be scared.”

So far, Kim and the others have managed to raise around £1,500 from their head-shaving antics last week.

Sunday before,” Kim said. “A couple of the kids at work, one got a Justgiving page up and the other put it on Facebook.”

One of the staff, Will Innes, described Kim as the ‘mother hen’ at the Chichester pub.

Kim starts chemotherapy next week.

“They’re really good kids,” said Kim. “I get on with them and love them to bits.”

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK.

The latest statics by Cancer Research UK shows that in 2011, almost 50,000 women were diagnosed with breast cancer – more than 130 women a day.
