BREAKING: Police link second arson to fatal Littlehampton flat fire

On September 12, at about 1am, a fire was started behind the front door of a house converted into flats in South Terrace – a blaze which claimed the life of the 24-year-old who worked in Morrisons, Wick.

A forensic study has since shown that white spirit was the key accelerant used in the blaze.

Today (Tuesday, January 14) police have announced they are investigating whether another arson and instance where white spirit was used in the hours before the fatal blaze, in streets near Mr Davies’ home, are linked.

The first instance was in nearby Bayford Road, where white spirit was found to have been poured around a front door to a home, at about 3pm on Wednesday, September 11. No fire was sparked.

Later that evening, at about 10.50pm, a car was set alight in Granville Road, only short period of time before the fire in South Terrace.

Detective Inspector John Wallace, from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: “These three events have been linked at this time as they happened within hours of each other and were only a matter of a few streets from each other in Littlehampton.

“We are hoping to speak to any witnesses or people who can give any information at all about either the two fires or what happened in Bayford Road.”

A spokeswoman from Sussex Police said the force is now appealing for anyone who may have any information about any of the incidents to come forward.

DI Wallace added: “A young man lost his life that night because someone started a fire and we need to find out who is responsible.

“We are appealing to anyone who may hold any information, however small, which will help us with our enquiries and bring justice to Terry’s family.”
