BREAKING NEWS: Patients evacuated as fire breaks out in hospital

A hospital in Crowborough has been partially evacuated this morning (Saturday, October 10) due to a fire.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to The Horder Centre, on St John’s Road, at around 9:40am this morning to reports of smoke coming from the hospital’s ground floor.

Three crews from Crowborough, Uckfield and Mayfield were rapidly dispatched to the scene, where a fire was found was found to have broken out in the refrigeration plant.

Firefighters are using four breathing apparatus, three pumps, a hose reel and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the blaze in the two-storey building.

A partial evacuation has taken place, including seven patients in beds, and attempts are being made to salvage as much medical equipment as possible.
