The 17-year-old boy was knocked over at the junction of Albert Road and Denmark Place at 11.40pm on Saturday night. He was rushed to the Conquest Hospital and later transferred to the brain unit at the Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath, where his condition was yesterday described as critical.
The 59-year-old taxi driver was unhurt, and the road was closed for three hours while police accident investigators examined the scene. No charges have been brought at this stage but officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident. They can be contacted on 0845 6070999.
