A boy was hit by a car as he was skateboarding along the side of the road.

The nine-year-old sustained cuts and abrasions as a result of the incident, which happened yesterday (Monday).

Police are now hunting the driver of a Mercedes car who collided with the youngster and then berated him before driving off.

The light silver coloured Mercedes had been seen driving up and down Blackman Avenue in St Leonards yesterday afternoon before colliding with the boy at 3.45pm.

He was playing on a skateboard at the side of the road near the junction with Burden Place and was knocked over sustaining cuts and abrasions to his feet and legs before being taken to the Conquest Hospital for treatment.

PC Stuart Ball, from Sussex Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “After the collision, the driver shouted at the boy telling him to get out of the road and then sped off in the direction of Chambers Road.

“The impact was enough to knock the driver’s side wing mirror off and this was left at the scene. We would like to hear from anyone who knows this vehicle or who spots a silver Mercedes locally with a missing mirror.”

The man is described as white, aged 25-28, of thin build with short hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 quoting serial 957 of 06/05 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
