Boundstone celebrates students' success

AN evening of entertainment, awards and celebration crowned a successful few months at Boundstone Community College.

Students, parents and staff at the college, in Upper Boundstone Lane, Lancing, gathered at Worthing's Pavilion Theatre for the college's annual awards night, on Thursday.

In previous years, selected members of staff and invited guests had sat on the stage, but head teacher Richard Evea said this year it was all change, and thanked the organising team for making it possible.

"They modernised the whole evening. In the past, it got a bit stuffy and old fashioned. This time, the only people on stage were those who needed to be, and we had a distinct stage space for the performances," Mr Evea said.

He said the revamped evening paid off, with the focus being on the people who mattered.

Mr Evea said: "It was a celebration for young people who had achieved a lot. The range of people presented with awards had increased, so it was much more about the whole school.

"Pretty much everyone had lived through part of the difficult past that we have had. We have put all that behind us and we are now a good school with aspirations to be very good."

Entertainment at the evening was provided by Boundstone's own performers, and included an excerpt from their upcoming production of West Side Story, performances by the chamber choir and stage band, and, for the first time at the ceremony, a dance performance.
