Books for hospice still available

TWO books featuring the poems and life stories of a nurse who volunteered at St Michael’s Hospice are still available to buy.

The books, entitled Nurses and Verses and My Life in Verse, in memory of Audrey Crittenden, are being used to raise much-needed funds for the St Leonards charity.

Audrey spent her last days there before she died in May 2008.

Last May, Don Valentine read her handwritten notes of her early life, together with a collection of her poems.

Along with Audrey’s sister, Adrienne Beaton, he set about creating a bound copy of the workings.

By the end of last year, more than 350 copies had been sold, raising more than £1,000 for the hospice.

Extra copies have since been printed as they have proven to be popular.

The books are available for £5 from the hospice shop in Upper Maze Hill, Harrow Lane post office, Beauport Park Golf Club and Salmons in White Rock.
