Bognor switched on to Star Wars

Hundreds of people packed part of Bognor Regis seafront to watch the promenade lights switch-on.

A Star Wars storm trooper, watched by between 600 and 700 spectators, performed the annual role with the help of Bognor's town mayor, Jennifer Gillibrand, and the chairman of Aldwick Parish Council, Carol Wiseman.

Bognor Seafront Lights deputy chairman Greg Burt said: "We were very lucky with the weather and everyone had a good time."

The ceremony took place outside the Royal Hotel. The switch-on saw the 100-plus illuminated displays above the promenade burst into coloured life.

They included the five new umbrella stand-shaped illuminations which are packed with low-voltage LED bulbs to provide a 'greener' way to brighten up the area.
