Bognor referendum: 'We owe it to our children to vote'

One of the supporters of next week's Bognor Regis town poll has urged residents to vote.

Roger Nash said it was important as many people as possible expressed their views in the polling booths between 4pm and 9pm next Wednesday in the first referendum of its kind for years.

He said: "Whatever local people think about what is currently on offer to change the face of Bognor, I would urge everyone who can to come out and vote.

"It's important that Arun District Council and developer, St Modwen, hear loud and clear what people in Bognor want or don't want.

"Saying 'I don't care' and being apathetic about what is going on is the worst reaction of all.

The future of Bognor and the environment we and our children and grandchildren will live in, are what is important. We can all have a say in how this will be shaped, so let's make our voices really heard on June 4."

Special town poll posters have been produced to go into shops and other locations as well as the formal notice of poll on all town council noticeboards.

The poll was called by residents at a recent electors' meeting. It is the first vote of its kind since the mid-1990s.

But several of them were held in the preceding years. The outcome of the vote is not binding on any local councils. Councillors, however, do have to take notice of the result.
