Billingshurst pub hopes to ‘smash’ last year’s fundraising target

The Six Bells pub, in the High Street, is hosting its annual charity day from 12pm until midnight on Saturday July 26 in support of Macmillan Cancer Support and have a whole host of entertainments, music, and food lined up including live bands, a mixture of cuisines, and a very special auction.

But they say they are still looking for a fire breather, one of which was present at last year’s event.

Volunteer Vicky Cooper-Johnstone, who helps organise the event, said: “We know a lot of people who have been helped by Macmillan and we know a lot of people who work for them.

“We also know people who would have not got through cancer without Macmillan. They are always there for you and they do so much that people are not aware of.

“They do lots of wonderful things and are wonderful people.”

Vicky used to work at the pub but now volunteers to help pub landlords Richard and Bridget Hall and pub manager Kirsty Cooper-Johnstone put on the event.

Last year the team managed to raise more than £4,000 but Vicky has plans to ‘smash’ that total this time around.

The event has activities for all ages including a bouncy castle, face painting, and a hog roast.

There will also be a chance to win a diamond worth more than £600 donated by Sakanini’s Jewellers in Horsham.

Guest will be able to bid on prizes such as a chauffeured Rolls-Royce for the day whilst getting the chance to visit the company’s plant and spend the night at Slinfold’s Random Hall Hotel, staying in the presidential suite.

There will also be a chance to win; a flight over Sussex, where you will be able to take control of the plane, a tour of a brewery and a night in a local hotel, two lots of seven tickets allowing the winner to eat out for seven days in different restaurants including the Giggling Squid and Wagamamas in Horsham, plus many more.

There will also be live performances from Throbbin Hood and the High Octane Junkies.

Meanwhile Vicky will also be cutting her hair to raise even more money for Macmillan, and will donate the hair to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who lose their hair to cancer.

Apart from one slight trim it will be her first haircut for three years.
