Bexhill man faces charge of death by dangerous driving
A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in St Leonards on New Year’s Day.
Luke Headech, 24, of Wickham Avenue, Bexhill, is also charged with causing death by careless driving while over the drink-drive limit, failing to stop at a collision and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Headech appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, June 23) where he was released on court bail to appear at Lewes Crown Court on July 23.
At about 4am on January 1 this year, a collision occurred on the A259 Grand Parade, St Leonards, at the junction with Warrior Square, between a Ford Focus car and a pedal cyclist. After colliding with the cyclist the car continued for a short distance before stopping on the A259.
Sadly the 23-year old cyclist, Jamie Murray, of Marina, St Leonards, died at the scene.
Two other men and a boy who were arrested at the time on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving have since been released without any further action.
