Beach Concert rocks

The RNLI and Pett Level Rescue were among those to benefit from the return of the popular Beach Concert.

The event was reinstated by popular demand, moving to the Stade Open Space and becoming the ‘Nearly on the Beach Concert’.

An evening was held at the Angling Club earlier this month to thank all those involved and to present cheques of £3,000 each to Hastings RNLI and Pett Level Rescue and £1,500 to the Sea Cadets.

Organiser Jackie Pratt said: “We wanted to keep the charities local and related to “the sea” as keeping with tradition for the concert which has always supported Hastings RNLI.

“We are delighted to be able to announce that after expenses and because of the generosity of sponsors and everyone who gave to the collection that we made a profit of just over £12,500.

“This means that not only do we have the means to put the event on again next year (approximate costs of just over £5,000) but we can donate a record amount to charity.

“The evening allowed us to say thank you to everyone including the bands, crew, stewards, collectors and sponsors, who helped us to resurrect this free annual event and to make it such a runaway success. It also gave us the opportunity to present the donations to the three charities that we were able to help this year.

“The new location on The Stade proved to be a huge success allowing use a professional stage and the running of all the “concessions” on the site by the committee meant that all the profits from these could also go straight to the charity fund.

Now it looks certain that the Beach Concert will return on an annual basis with plans already in the pipeline for next year’s event.

Jackie said: “Once again thank you to everyone who helped towards such an amazing weekend and we look forward to next year.”
