Battle mum’s weight loss bid for diabetes charity

A MUM of three from Battle is aiming to swap lbs for £s in aid of a diabetes charity.

Bec Gasson, of Wellington Gardens, is aiming to shed 100lb - more than seven stone - in just six months.

Bec hopes her weight loss will help raise £500 for a charity which helps young people struggling with diabetes.

Bec said: “I am hoping to lose 100lb in weight doing a very low calorie diet plan.

“People have very kindly sponsored me for the charity JDRF, which is the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

“There is a local girl who has type 1 diabetes and I wanted to raise something for the charity her parents support.

“I also wanted to raise some awareness for the charity too.

“I hope to complete the 100lb loss by July this year.”

Bec started her weight loss challenge on January 6.

In her first week she lost 8lbs.

So far Bec has raised around £350.

Bec is the founder of Battle Superstar Kids, an organisation created in 2012 to raise funds and awareness for children with special needs in the local area.

Bec also acts as a carer for her disabled husband, who is joining her on her weight loss journey.

Bec said: “Everyone has been so supportive and my husband is doing the very low calorie diet plan too, but not for charity. “So doing it together is brilliant.”

Local business The Soup Dragon is also supporting Bec’s fundraising attempt.

The Hastings-based business has offered to donate a soup a week for the duration of Bec’s challenge.
