Award for Chantry's dyslexia work

An award for being dyslexia-friendly was received by Chantry Community Primary School.

This was given by East Sussex County Council in recognition of the work being done by head teacher Christine Dickens.

Christine was “very pleased” to be given the award.

She said: “It has taken a lot of hard work. “One of our teachers had to be trained as a dyslexia-accredited teacher, so I did that, and then we had to have a least one teaching assitant who trained as a dylexia-accredited teaching assistant, and we managed to have two do that training.

“So it has taken more than two years, changing the ethos of the school to be aware of children who have reading difficulty.

“Children who struggle are given the right support so they enjoy their learning - that’s what it is in a nutshell, that the right support is given.”
