Arundel's homeless A27 "aliens" relocate to historic castle

ALIEN spiders which were threatened with eviction from a roundabout on the A27 during the Arundel Festival have been given a new home '” in the grounds of Arundel Castsle.

Highways Agency officials ordered the five "Scuttle-Head" sculptures, by Worthing student Stuart Slade, to be moved after an Arundel woman complained that they scared her children and were a distraction to passing motorists.

But the Duchess of Norfolk, who said her own children loved the sculptures, intervened and offered to give the Scuttle-Heads space to stretch their long legs on the castle lawns, where they can be seen until the end of September, apart from Mondays, when the castle is closed.

The sculptures were set up as part of the festival's popular Gallery Trail and news of their imminent eviction attracted nationwide media attention, including an interview with Stuart on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Stuart thanked the Duke and Duchess for allowing him to relocate the Scuttle-Heads, part human, part insect and part robot, aliens from outer space who had landed on the roundabout from the future.
