PARISH COUNCIL: There will be a meeting of Arlington Parish Council on Thursday at Upper Dicker Village Hall at which matters relating to the WDC proposal for 5000+ houses in Arlington Parish will be on the Agenda. PLANNING APPLICATION: Chandlers’ Planning Application WD-2016-1440. Arlington parishioners are alerted to the retrospective application by Chandlers to use an area of land next to the ski slope at Knockhatch for the parking of 63 cars. The application proposes to access the site via Hempstead Lane and also references Arlington Road in its Design and Access Statement. BERWICK PARISH COUNCIL: The next meeting of Berwick Parish Council is a full council meeting and is proposed for Tuesday August 30 at 7pm at Berwick Village Hall.

YOGA CLASSES: The Yoga class is held every Monday in Arlington Village Hall from 3pm to 4.15pm. It is open to all levels as the yoga taught here can be adapted to suit most individual needs and abilities. Since starting the class in 2015, there is now a group of a dozen ‘regulars’ who have made steady progress. It is enjoyable, informative and fun. To book: Email: [email protected]

PICKHAMS ART WEEK: Between today and the August 14, there will be a Pickhams Art Week held between 10am and 5pm at Pickhams, Hayreed Lane Wilmington BN26 6RR. Contact details are 01323 485153.

CREATIVE MARQUEE: Between today and August 13, from 10.30am to 4pm, as part of Arts Week at Pickhams (Hayreed Lane, off Baileys Lane between Wilmington and Arlington) there will be a Creative Marquee. Come and be inspired by the beautiful surroundings, art and garden sculpture trail to paint, make mosaic, write poetry or prose or to create your own short film. Find out all about the local events to come in September for the Hailsham Festival of Arts and Culture and enter some of the free festival competitions. Donations to festival funds. ROADWORKS: From August 15 to 17, there will be a lifting and replacement of the Wilmington Level Crossing in Thornwell Road, to allow tampering machinery to pass through, working from 10.30pm to 5.30am daily.

BERWICK PRODUCE SHOW: On August 27 there will be a produce show held on the Berwick Playing Field at BN26 6TD.

FLOWER SHOW: Arlington and Upper Dicker Produce and Flower Show is on Saturday September 3 starting at 3pm in Arlington Village Hall. Fun event for all ages in the spirit of ‘have a go’. Classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers, flower arranging, cookery, children’s classes and craftwork. Copies of the Programme and entry form are in the August edition of Dicker Links or from the Upper Dicker Village Shop. Entries close Wednesday August 31. MEN’S BREAKFAST: On Saturday, September 10 at 9am a Men’s breakfast will be held in the Village Shop, Upper Dicker. Join the Vicar and others for a short talk, time for a chat and a scrumptious breakfast. The breakfasts will be held monthly and in September David, our Vicar, will be talking about his Life in Cars.

HEDGE-LAYING COMPETITION: On Saturday, September 10, the Laughton and District Agricultural Society’s annual competition will be hosted by Peter and Jackie Appleton. Spectators are welcome and the entrance is opposite Raylands Farm, Tye Hill Lane.

QUIZ NIGHT: A Quiz Night will be held on Saturday, September 10 in Upper Dicker Village Hall. Further details to follow.

BARN DANCE: A Barn Dance will be held on September 10 at Bluebell Barn, Bates Green Farm. Tickets at £7 are available from the Bluebell Farm Shop.

LIONS DOG SHOW: On Sunday September 25 in Upper Dicker Village Hall, there will be a dog show taking place throughout the day. Further details will follow.
