PARISH COUNCILS (PCCs): The Parish Church Councils (PCCs) of Holy Trinity, Upper Dicker and of St Peter and St Paul, Hellingly have agreed to move to combine the parishes of Upper Dicker and Hellingly. This has been agreed because a parish church has legal, financial and administrative obligations it has to meet and it has become clear that the church at Upper Dicker cannot manage to do this on its own. The church of St Peter and St Paul at Hellingly will be the parish church and Holy Trinity church will become what is called a Chapel of Ease. The services at Upper Dicker will continue, as will the use of the church for weddings, baptisms and funerals. To all intents and purposes there will be little difference. The Church of England has agreed to the amalgamation of the parishes in principle and details are on the church noticeboards. PUBLIC PHONE BOX: BT has posted a notice which, 42 days from October 3, will see the telephone box in Coldharbour Road removed. BT has stated that as the service is not used, its removal is justified. However, the call box has been out of service for some time, with BT not re-instating service despite requests so to do. There is concern that the box, situated adjacent to the recreation ground and in an area of poor mobile signal, could form a vital means of communication if a user of the Recreation Ground suffered a life threatening injury. If parishioners wish to see the box retained then this should be communicated to Wealden District Council referencing the call box number 01323 84 3500 located in Coldharbour Road, Upper Dicker BN27 3QA.

BOUNDARY COMMISSION REVIEW: The Boundary Commission is currently reviewing the parliamentary constituencies for 2018 and Arlington Parish will, under the present recommendations, fall into a new constituency called Lewes and Uckfield. Comments on the review may be made via the Boundary Commission website at https://www.bce2018.org.uk/ and entering your postcode. There is a public hearing in Brighton on October 31 and November 1, but a slot must be booked, see the same website for further details.

ROADWORKS: Until today, in Alfriston Road, Berwick, there is East Sussex Traffic two-way signal control.

BAGS OF HELP: Arlington Parish Council is supporting a community-led project to improve the Village Green in Upper Dicker. The Green is a focal point in the village and the project to enhance it has been shortlisted to receive a grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme. The Groundworks Team at Tesco are putting the money that we now all spend on replacement carrier bags straight back into community projects in the vicinity of those who use their local Tesco store. It’s a great idea and you can help secure Upper Dicker a substantial grant by visiting Tesco in Hailsham and voting for the Upper Dicker Village Green Project from now until early November.

COFFEE MORNINGS: Every Thursday morning, between 10.40am to noon in Upper Dicker Village Hall, a coffee morning and book exchange takes place.

YOGA CLASSES: The Yoga class is held every Monday in Arlington Village Hall from 3pm to 4.15pm. It is open to all levels as the yoga taught here can be adapted to suit most individual needs and abilities. Since starting the class in 2015, there is now a group of a dozen ‘regulars’ who have made steady progress. It is enjoyable, informative and fun. To book: Email: [email protected]

MOBILE LIBRARY: Today, Friday, the Mobile Library will call at Arlington Village Hall between 2.20pm and 2.45pm and at Berwick Village Hall between 2.55pm and 3.10pm

QUIZ NIGHT: Tomorrow, Saturday, in Arlington Village Hall starting at 7pm. Tickets £3 per head. The theme will be Around the World in 80 Questions. Donations and raffle prizes would be most welcome. VILLAGE MARKET: On Tuesday there will be a village market in Arlington Village Hall between 10 and 11.30am. There will be a variety of stalls selling home-grown produce, bread and cakes, plants, bric-a-brac and silverware. Admission is free and stalls cost a token £1 to hire. AUTUMN JUMBLE SALE: On Saturday, November 12 there will be a jumble sale in Arlington Village Hall staring at 2pm. Sorting will be held on Friday, November 11 from 2pm.

WORK PARTY: Change in date from November 13. A work party will be held in the Dicker Copse on Sunday November 20, from 10am to noon when excess blackthorn and brambles will be cut back. A small hedge pack has been requested from the Woodland Trust. It is hoped that a few Hazel saplings can be planted to fill a gap in the Copse and that a few hawthorn and dog rose plants can improve the hedgerow. Volunteers are very welcome.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: The next Arlington Parish Council meeting will be held on the November 17 at 7.30pm in Arlington Village Hall.

AUTUMN FAYRE: On Saturday, November 19 from 10.30am to 1.30pm in Upper Dicker Hall there will be an Autumn Fayre Coffee Morning where there will be a sale of cards, jewellery, gifts, toys, craft items and other stalls. CONTRABAND AT ARLINGTON: On Saturday, November 19 starting at7.30pm: Don’t miss Contraband at Arlington Village Hall. Wicked, foot-stomping music and great atmosphere. Real Ale bar and plenty of dancing. Tickets £8.50, £5 (under 16s) from Bluebell Farm Shop and on the door.

ARLINGTON ARTS GROUP: On November 24 and December 1, there will be a demo/workshop with Amanda Rose, silk painting. Places are limited to eight people, first week will be playing and the second week we will create something. Price TBA as materials will be included. CHRISTMAS IN ARLINGTON: On December 10, there will be an Advent Fair in Arlington Village Hall from 2pm to 6pm. There are just a few stalls left if anyone has Christmas gifts or produce to sell. Also featuring: The Seaford Silver Band and the Lighting of the Christmas tree, followed by carols under the tree, mulled wine and refreshments. There will be plenty of festive cheer, Christmas gifts and home-made Christmas cakes, puddings and preserves.

UPPER DICKER: The following events in Upper Dicker are scheduled during December. On Monday, December 12 there will be Carols on the Green. On Thursday, December 15 there will be a Christmas Coffee Morning starting at 10.30am in Upper Dicker Village Hall and on Sunday, December 18 Christmas lunch will be served in Upper Dicker Hall.
